What Happens at Your First Orthodontic Consultation?

Starting orthodontic treatment is a big step, and for many patients and parents, the first consultation comes with a lot of questions. Whether you’re exploring braces for your child or clear aligners for yourself, understanding what to expect can help you feel more comfortable and confident before your visit.

At All Star Orthodontics, our goal is to make your first appointment informative, relaxed, and pressure-free while giving you a clear understanding of your treatment options.

Do You Need a Referral to See an Orthodontist?

No referral is needed to schedule an orthodontic consultation at All Star Orthodontics. Many parents are surprised to learn they can schedule directly with Dr. Cline without first visiting their general dentist.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends children have their first orthodontic evaluation around age 7, but patients of all ages can benefit from an orthodontic consultation. We see children, teens, and adults for braces and clear aligner treatment.

What Happens During the Appointment?

Your complimentary consultation includes several important steps that help us evaluate your smile, bite, and overall orthodontic needs.

During your visit, we may take:

  • Digital scans or X-rays

  • Photographs of the teeth and bite

  • Measurements of jaw alignment and spacing

You’ll also meet with our Board-Certified orthodontist, Dr. Matt Cline, to review your findings and discuss personalized treatment recommendations.

Every smile is different, so treatment recommendations are customized based on your specific needs, goals, and stage of development.

Will You Find Out if You Need Braces or Clear Aligners?

Yes. During your consultation, we’ll discuss whether braces, clear aligners (like Invisalign®, or another orthodontic approach may be the best fit for your case.

Some patients are ready to begin treatment right away, while others may simply benefit from monitoring growth and development over time. If treatment isn’t needed yet, we’ll explain what to watch for and when follow-up visits may be recommended.

At All Star Orthodontics, we offer several treatment options, including:

  • Traditional metal braces

  • Ceramic braces

  • Invisalign clear aligners

  • Early orthodontic treatment

  • Accelerated orthodontic treatment

Our team will help explain the pros and considerations of each option so you can make an informed decision.

Will We Discuss Cost and Financing?

Absolutely! We believe patients should fully understand their treatment options and financial information before starting care.

During your consultation, our team will review:

  • Estimated treatment costs

  • Insurance benefits

  • Flexible financing options

  • Monthly payment plans

We’ll answer your questions and help you understand all available options with no pressure to begin treatment the same day.

Questions You May Want to Ask During Your Consultation

It’s completely normal to have questions during your first orthodontic visit. Some common questions include:

  • How long will treatment take?

  • Is Invisalign an option for me or my child?

  • Will teeth need to be removed?

  • How often are appointments?

  • What happens if we wait to start treatment?

  • How do braces or aligners affect sports and activities?

Our team encourages questions and wants every patient to feel comfortable and informed throughout the process.
